Are Ammoon saxophones cheap alternative new players?
Do they sound as good as more expensive saxophones?
During my Ammoon saxophone review, I was surprised in many ways. They definitely can be surprisingly good, but to be sure an Ammoon sax will fit your needs I suggest you continue reading.
What Is An Ammoon Saxophone?
Every Ammoon sax model is reportedly designed in the US and then produced and assembled in Chinese factories, as is standard with most budget brands. The company also sells a variety of other instruments as well as audio equipment. Be sure to check their website as they often have Amazon discounts available.
Are Ammon Saxophones User-Friendly?
They are a great option for students, especially the Ammoon Alto and the Ammoon Soprano sax which play in tune right out of the. Intermediate players might need some adjustments, a replacement mouthpiece and a quality set of reeds to get the most out of the instruments, but then they can serve as a great backup or practice saxes. The Ammoon pocket sax is a great option for people who want to just get a feel of what playing the saxophone is like or for blowing practice on the road as it’s very compact.
Do They Come With A Warranty?
Each Ammoon saxophone is only available for purchase through Amazon so they are likely working as part of the Amazon Warehouse Program. This means that you might sometimes get a sax with a manufacturer defect. Luckily, Amazon consistently handles all saxophone replacements, returns, and refunds which means that in case of a faulty instrument you can just message them for a replacement one or get a full refund.
Best 4 Ammoon Saxophones
Ammoon Soprano Straight Lade Sax
This Ammoon soprano saxophone review will let you know all you need to decide whether this is the right sax for you. It’s a very affordable student and intermediate saxophone made out of high-quality red bronze. You can order it in only one design that features an antique surface finish with a carved pattern design on it.
Is The Sax Of Good Quality?
The body is built out of bronze while the finish itself seems to be a surface coating. It doesn’t seem that impressive up close but on a stage, it looks the part. The mechanism works well, although it might be a bit tight and need some loosening trough play. The lower keys are placed more to the side as is contemporary but easy to get used to. The key inlays are made out of abalone shell and have a nice texture to the touch that doesn’t slip. The sealing pads are made out of real leather with a water-resistant coating and seal pretty well.
What’s Included In The Kit?
You will receive your Ammoon Rano sax wrapped in it’s carrying case. The Case is sturdy with side, top and shoulder straps sop and fits the instrument well for transport. Inside the case, you will receive a fitting mouthpiece and cap that’s of student quality, alongside a set of 10 Ammoon reeds of again student quality, size 2,5“. There are for some reason 2 neck-straps, with only one being comfortable enough to use. The protective brush is cheap but you can just save the end cap from it and be fine without the rest. The included handbook provides instructions for maintenance and assembly. There is no cork grease included.
Will My Ammoon Soprano Saxophone Sound Good?
Considering its price this sax has a nice and big sound across its range and can compare to most intermediate price soprano saxophones with the right adjustments. Namely, the mouthpiece won’t let you bend notes easily and I recommend as usual buying a Yamaha 4C replacement which helps this instrument fulfill it’s potential. Other than that the Ammoon soprano saxophone will surprise you and sound really good for the price. I definitely recommend it as a first Soprano for experienced sax players or as a backup instrument.
- cheap trial or backup instrument
- ready to play and sounds good
- sturdy carry case
- mouthpiece is mostly good for students
- no cork grease included
Ammoon B Flat Soprano Saxophone
This flat Ammoon soprano sax has been a bit controversial. Upon review, I found that the instrument itself performs well, similar to the LADE Ammoon Soprano saxophone. It is made out of high-quality brass and features a stylish surface design with nicely carved patterns over the sax. Its mechanism and construction are well thought out and you would expect that it would deliver a beautiful sound considering the low price, just as the other Ammoon soprano saxophone in the shop does.
What’s In The Ammoon B Flat Soprano Saxophone Kit?
In short, yes. The saxophone comes packed in a hard carry case with straps on the top, sides and for your back. There’s the usual Ammoon cleaning kit included which has all the essentials from cloths, a cleaning rod, protective cap, and gloves.
Why Does The Ammoon B Flat Soprano Sax Have Mixed Reviews?
In short, it is because of unreliable shipping. The hard carry case the sax comes in appears to be a bit too big for the instrument and a lot of people have received a bent, broken or partially disassembled saxophone that was completely unusable. Another half received a totally fine Ammoon B flat soprano sax that plays and sounds great and we’re more than satisfied. It’s not totally clear why only this sax has so much delivery issues, but if you’re willing to risk it and maybe have to send it back once or twice for Amazon to replace, you will eventually receive a good instrument for cheap that plays in tune out of the box. You can also just refund it.
- plays in tune and sounds good
- good student or secondary instrument
- sturdy carry case
- is often damaged in shipping
- mouthpiece is just ok
- hard to repair
Ammoon Mini Pocket Saxophone
The Ammoon mini saxophone also called the Ammoon pocket sax, is somewhat of a cross between a classic recorder and a straight saxophone, with the price of the first and the tone of the second. It’s an interesting instrument and comes at an insanely low price for a woodwind instrument that can fit a single-reed mouthpiece. It’s made of solid ABS polymer plastic that is both very durable and lightweight. The attached mouthpiece is a classic square hole alto saxophone piece with a 2.5” Ammoon brand reed. It’s only available in frosted black and has a subtle embossed floral pattern on the horn.
What’s Included In With The Amoon Pocket Sax
When you order your Ammoon mini you will receive it with some cork grease applied, a standard alto mouthpiece with reed and an extra set of 10 2.5“ intermediate plastic reeds. A mouthpiece holder and ligature are of course included, as well as separate fiber carry bags: one for the instrument and another for the mouthpiece. You will also receive a fingering chart so that you can translate classical notations into finger positions on your Ammoon mini.
What Is It Used For?
To start off you should understand that this is not a replacement for a regular saxophone. It’s more of a practice instrument for people learning single reed woodwinds that like the sound of the sax. This makes it great for people who want to try and learn the saxophone but not spend the money for one, or for experienced players who just want something miniature to carry around and practice their breathing and mouthing technique.
Is It Any Good?
It serves its purpose. It has 11 holes on the top and 1 plus 3 extra thumb holes (for F#) It sounds somewhat like a clarinet and can play music well in the pitch of C. The fingering char included only spans one octave in Bb, but experienced players can bend it further than that. The mouthpiece is student grade and the reeds are a bit thick and cheap, so just buy a Yamaha 4C Alto or similar if you want a deeper sound. I recommend 2“ reeds and would suggest this for anyone that wants to try playing sax but doesn’t have the money for one or as a fun practice tool.
- good and cheap for practice
- durable and easy to bring anywhere
- comes ready to play
- mouthpiece is only good for technique
- reeds are for intermediate players
- can’t play a full range of octaves
Ammoon Alto Saxophone Review
Cheap Eb alto saxophones have become really popular and the Ammoon Alto saxophone is good content in the category. It’s available in a gold lacquered made out of brass with an option for an 82Z key layout. During my Ammoon alto saxophone review, I’ve found that it weighs just under 10 pounds, has sturdy construction with guards to prevent damage to the lower pads, as well as a stable ligature and stainless steel screws. The leather pads move nicely and their keys are made out of brushes natural shells that both feel nice to the touch and provide some welcome grip.
What’s In The Ammoon Alto Sax Kit?
Ammoon ships their sax in a stable and well-padded hard case with plenty of carrying straps. The cleaning kit is basic and includes only a brush, gloves, protective cap and cleaning cloth. Cork grease is thankfully included, as well as 2 Ammon 2” reeds.
Does It Play Well?
You will be presently surprised at the sound of the Ammoon alto saxophone. It can play all notes both loud and softly with a nice growl which makes it great for jazz music. Some players might have difficulty playing the low notes with the included soft reeds, so harder ones, as well as a mouthpiece, are recommended if you wish to get the most out of this saxophone. Personally I recommend the Yamaha 5C mouthpiece and maybe a professional neck-strap since the one provided will wear you down after lots of playing.
Is The Ammoon Alto Saxophone For Me?
If you’re a beginner, student or someone who hasn’t played in a while and wants to get back to sax I would recommend this saxophone. Some shipping issues and damages are possible but rest sure that you can replace it or get a refund.
- cheap and sturdy
- potent growly sound over the whole range
- great carry box and beautiful design
- shipping damages are sometimes a risk
- shoulder strap isn’t very comfortable
- hard to play the low notes with included reeds and mouthpiece
Conclusion: What Ammoon Saxophone Is The Best One?
After finishing my Ammoon saxophone review and some thinking I would say that the best product in their offer is the Ammoon mini saxophone. It’s simple and sturdy construction combined with the insanely low price and high practicality makes it the perfect practice instrument for those who want to hone their skills on the road or just play around and explore saxophone instruments. The Ammoon pocket sax reviews have been nothing but positive and I can’t help but agree.
